Good Broadband Router September 20, 2008 I do not know enough about computers to tell you if this is better than other products. I can tell you that I've not had any issues with this router. The price was not too bad, either, so I'd have to recommend this product if you are looking for a basic, broadband router.
Best DSL Modem/Gateway available December 29, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This has to be the most configurable, smooth and fast DSL modem I have ever used, hands down. I have a multiple address block from my ISP, and they only seem to have instructions for a couple of modems that aren't even being manufactured currently. I am using this with FastQ over a Qwest line, and it works perfectly. I had to follow the instructions for PPPoE, but use PPPoA for the actual connection to setup the multiple IP block, since they only showed instructions for PPPoE... Wasn't difficult at all, and far easier than the terminal scripts for the other modems I've setup in the past.br /br /This is now my dsl modem of choice for small business, and home business clients. Anyone that needs a better grade of dsl modem, this is it. It is a bit more pricey than some other modems, and some of the software options are paid upgrades.br /br /Mine is setup as a gateway to a hardware firewall, so I wasn't lookup for UPnP or the like. There are a lot of options for services and port forwarding, and the setup is pretty straight forward.
An Excellent Gateway for DSL service June 16, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have ADSL internet service using PPPoE and this broadband modem works very well. It supports many protocols in the TCP/IP suite, thus you can control the settings in the many configuration menus and customize your internet connection for your networking and security needs. It is a DHCP server and router, and with a separate fast ethernet switch, you can connect many computer and network devices to your home LAN to share your internet connection. You can customize the security features, for example, configuring pinholes in the NAT firewall, use port filtering, etc. It has excellent displays of the status of your internet connection and your settings, with excellent diagnostic self-tests if something goes wrong. Using the "distributed services" configuration menu, you can provide different priority internet service to the different computers on your LAN. Very cool. The CDROM comes with a very comprehensive manual that is worth reading. I don't understand why this incredible and inexpensive internet gateway isn't on the shelves of all the computer and office stores. Maybe because ISPs provide modems, but they can't be as flexible, sophisticated and packed with geek-fun as this one. When your ISP-supplied modem bites the dust, you can't go wrong with one of these.
