2nd purchase January 7, 2009 I bought this same model mouse 6 years ago and wore the original one out so when I saw Microsoft still made the same one it was a no brainer to reorder the same one. It fits my hand right and the button placement is great. Really nice for web surfing!
A living legend, plus, only low sense gaming mouse on the market. October 17, 2008 First of all...br /br /They fixed the scroll wheel!!!!!!!!!!!br /The newest revision of the IME 3.0 has fixed the scroll wheel problem people were reporting.br /br /This is great news.br /br /br /Prosbr /1.2mm lift off distance on every surfacebr /Perfect comfort and shapebr /5 buttonsbr /Works perfectly at 400dpibr /br /Cons (of course)br /Only 400 dpi...desktop resolutions are like, 1920x1200, and anything less than 1600 dpi feels sluggishly slow on a desktop. 400 dpi is awesome for games...but come on, can't be helped though.br /Only 5 buttons...gaming mice these days like to have at least 7 fully programmable buttons, 5 is standard though. Not many games need 7, I have ten PC FPS and RTS games...and I only use 7 mouse buttons in Gears of War.br /br /Other Thoughts And Comparisonsbr /Many people get a Razer DeathAdder or MX518 because they want an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 with high DPI, that can switch to low DPI.br /Unfortunatly what happens is that those mice, in their low DPI modes, do not perform the same as the IME 3.0, they don't track as well, they force straight lines, and in general are not as accurate.br /br /If you want a faster mouse, or more buttons...br /Microsoft Habu is the way to go.br /br /It's the only mouse that has the Intellimouse shape, and the build quality behind it to make it good enough to compare.br /br /Cons on the Habu though...br /Need a hard pad to make it track good.br /2.4 mm lift off on most hard pads. 1.2mm is the perfect lift off, and you can pretty much only get it with the Intellimouse Explorer 3.0br /br /Please buy this mouse if you're hardcore into gaming.br /Use it seperate from your high DPI mouse, use this mouse for gaming, and the other mouse for desktop use.br /Unless you're used to 400 dpi desktop mice...then you win all over.br /br /They fixed the scroll wheel problem.br /This mouse is a legend.br /Original unopened go for over $200 on eBay.br /br /SteelSeries limited editions go for over $100 on eBay.br /br /Don't pass this up, it's getting rare again.
Best Mouse I've Ever Used September 9, 2008 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
My keyboards/mice matter a lot to me since I spend 80% of my day at a computer (whether at home or at work). I've used almost all of Microsoft's Mice that come with their popular keyboards as well as the Microsoft Habu for the last few years. One reason I stopped using the Habu is that after 2-3 months of use the scroll wheel is useless.br /br /The Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0 is very big, if not bigger than the Habu (which is big). I have larger than average hands (6ft male) so this mouse may not be comfortable to those with smaller hands. However, this mouse is perfect for me and feels a lot better than the Habu did. Although the DPI isn't as great as the Habu, just up the mouse motion and it works great. The scroll wheel is a definite improvement over previous Microsoft Mice. The mouse buttons are a bit stiffer than the Habu but not uncomfortably so.br /br /Either way, this mouse has to be the best one I've used so far. It isn't packed with 500 buttons I'll never use. It feels well built (not like some plastic toy mice) and glides on the mouse pad without problem.br /br /Mice are pretty simple so one of the big things that I like about this mouse is how well it fits in my hand and how comfortable it feels after 4-5 hours of use. Definitely recommend!
Major Flaw That Causes Gaming Errors August 28, 2008 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
After using the explorer 3.0 for over a month I discovered a MAJOR FLAW. If you have a tendency when relocating the mouse on the pad (like when you've gone all the way to one side of the pad but need the pointer to go over even further) if you drop the mouse just a little too harshly, I'm not even talking about hard, it will cause the middle scroll wheel button to activate (it doesn't click but it still activates). This matters if you've reassigned the wheel button to be a certain weapon or some action in a game it will cause the action to happen. I thought I had just abused the mouse so I got new one but it does the same thing. I can not believe nobody else has noticed this issue but I am now sick of this mouse and now need to get something else. I kind of noticed the issue at first but it took me a really long time to realize it wasn't me, it was the mouse causing it every time.
Just Perfect June 1, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Definately the best mouse for your money. Fits my hand perfectly even if you have medium sized hands. The side buttons do not get in the way and are easy to program for office work or FPS (first person shooters) and MMORPGS. The wheel does make a somewhat loud clacking noise when scrolling but unless you're really paying any attention to it you really won't notice it especially if you're a gamer. The best feature of this mouse is that it eliminates the necessity of having a mouse pad. You can use it on any surface and the pointer will not skip around. So far I've experienced no ghost moving (cord making the mouse move) infact I say the cord for this mouse is perfect. The cord does not make the mouse move on it's own if it's idle.br /br /I would actually give this mouse 4 1/2 stars only because of the clacking mouse wheel but overall I'm very happy with this mouse and I highly recommend this to anyone :)
