Product Description
Imagine holding a library of books conveniently in one hand. Begin a new chapter with the PRS-700BC Reader Digital Book. Boasting an impressive 6.0-inch, touch screen display, this Reader uses paper-like E Ink technology which makes it easier to read, even in bright-light situations. In addition to a built-in light, there's an interactive touch screen that lets you turn pages with the slide of a finger or activate the bookmark. You can also create annotations with a virtual keyboard, highlight text with a stylus pen, search for text in your digital book, and easily adjust the font size. A faster processor gives you quicker response times when opening content or turning pages. Ideal for travelers or people who like to read while on the go, the PRS-700BC holds approximately 320 digital books. A sizeable 6-inch display with touchscreen technology lets you interact with the Reader just like a real book. A simple movement with the slide of a finger lets you easily turn pages or activate the bookmark. It also features a virtual keyboard that can be used for quick annotation or search. While most portable electronics lose power after only a few hours, the Reader Digital Book lets you turn up to 7,500 continuous pages (or up to two weeks of reading) on a single charge of internal rechargeable battery. Battery Type - Rechargeable Lithium-Ion / Recharging Time - Approx. 4 Hours with USB charging from powered Computer or Approx. 2 Hours when using optional AC wall charger Sony USA Limited Warranty - 90-Day Parts and Labor

5 out of 5 stars THis product is awesome   January 8, 2009
I bought this device for myself for Christmas. I have never had one but I have seen the kindle in a book store. I spend much time reading the reviews on all the readers that are out there. In the end it boiled it down to the kindle or the Sony 700. There are obviously pros and cons on both items, however I chose the Sony over the kindle because I am a Professor at a Seminary and most of our curriculum is in pdf form. On a regular computer you cannot highlight or note anything on pdf books. But on this beautiful (and it is the prettiest one of them all)thing I can now highlight and make notes as much as I want. I can take it anywhere and still be working. It did not take long to learn how to use it and downloading books is a breeze, whether they are pdf or the Sony e-books. I have already downloaded 20 of the 100 free books from the Sony store. The ability to read pdf in large print is awesome as well. The negative features that have been mentioned on amazon and the Sony site are really minor. I can read the screen just fine and when it get dark the little side lights are very good. As far as the reflections on the screen is concerned it is not that bad I know magazines that carry a greater glare, but if you just move it a little bit(I know it's hard work)it is gone. I have now enjoyed this product which is a little bit pricey, but I have not had to spend a dime on books yet, there are so many pdf books out there for free download. This product is worth buying by any means.

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   January 8, 2009
For first time e-reader buyers, don't buy or buy the Sony e-reader on the reviews on here, do your research, go to Borders or the Sony store at your local mall or even on YouTube and you can see the features and make up your own mind. If I came here first before I bought my e-reader I might not of bought it just by reading about the glare and the foggy screen etc. what foggy screen? what glare? No problem over on my end, this new gadget is simply amazing. The price tag was my only problem, then again, the Sony e-reader is not a need, its a want. Happy reading.

4 out of 5 stars PRS700   January 5, 2009
Jusy love this new updated sony ebook reader. Would be nice if you could read while it is connected to computer by usb cable. Also, a car charger would be nice addition for long trips. Exceptionally easy to download books to read.

5 out of 5 stars Very Happy Reader   January 5, 2009
I had been looking at these, but was too conservative to take the plunge. I had already settled on Sony's Reader over the Kindle but was hesitant to shell out the cash. My wife surprised me for Christmas and I am so glad she did.br /br /One thing I was nervous about was the readability. I had read some reviews about the glare of the screen as well as the contrast of the gray background. The glare is noticeable at first, but with a slight adjustment it becomes a non-issue. Once I begin reading I don't notice it at all. The gray-black contrast is also no problem as long as the lighting is adequate, but that would go for any book. This is also helped by the built-in lighting, very convenient.br /br /As soon as I started reading the device began to disappear, just like a good book. I found myself at first reaching up to turn the page, forgetting to swipe or press the page turn button instead. The touch screen and the buttons are very easy to use, easy to learn.br /br /I have a large collection of classic literature already in pdf format and I was anxious to see how it would work on my Reader. It works great and it is so much more readable than on the computer. The only pdf documents I have had trouble with are those with charts or a lot of formatting, like double columns or brochures. For most pdf documents, however, the resizing works great and I am very happy.br /br /The accompanying software is basic, but easy to use. It is easy to create collections to organize your reading any way you want. It is very simple to import my own documents into the Reader as well.br /br /Sony's design is very attractive. I know external design is a secondary issue, but this really is a good looking device. The weight and size feel very comfortable. The cover is secure and smart.

1 out of 5 stars Misleading -- SONY Customer Service HUNG UP ON ME!!!   December 30, 2008

First off -- this may or may not work to your expectations but if you are a Mac user FORGET IT! You're screwed! What product in this day and age is not Mac compatible???? Well, the SONY Reader isn't. Worse, I ordered this from their website -- nowhere does it warn Mac users about incompatibility issues -- as a gift. Even worse yet, I had it engraved.br /br /SO ... Christmas morning when my husband unwraps his gift, well you can see where this is going. Since I had it engraved SONY policy is no refund. I got that jewel of information from the SONY customer service agent, George, right before HE HUNG UP ON ME.br /br /SHAME ON YOU SONY ..;.
