I love this thing, I am so pleased December 18, 2008 Yes the USB modem only works with windows. Yup it's too big to plug another USB directly next to it. But I love it anyway. You do need a cd-rom reader (I also did this via a USB flash drive for my Acer Aspire One), and you need to follow directions.br /br /The following directions part is crucial, don't just plug it in and let the disk go at her, you need to cancel the new hardware installation procedure and follow your version of Windows specific instructions. I did not follow the directions, and I had a head thumping incident.br /br /When I read the directions and followed them - worked like a charm.br /br /As far as connectivity, I was uber impressed, it feels a litte on the cheap side - well it was cheap - but it just kept right on a working. For the price, size and ease of use (after the intial instruction debacl) I am impressed and pleased.br /
It might work, but..., December 17, 2008 This may be an alright modem, but I never had a chance to find out!br /With so many calls, mostly to Hewlitt Packard...without whose help, I would have been lost...and to Trendnet...whose personel - if you could communicate with them at all - were completely untrained and hadn't a clue!- were actually not aware of the fact that the driver cd that came with the product was NOT THE RIGHT ONE. After a week, Amazon allowed me to return and replace it with the US Robotics, which was beautifully documented and worked immediately.
TRENDnet 56K USB Data/Fax/TAM Modem (V.92, Kflex56) December 16, 2008 Due to a problem with my PC, I lost the built in modem. I found this device on the internet. I have only used it a couple of times and it worked fine for faxes. Oh yes, I have Vista.
Works great for me, but I run Win Xp November 27, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
No problems so far with this neat little modem. I still fascinates me that my first phone modem was about the size and weight of a brick, and was 2.6K. Even though the modem is "controlled" by Windows, the performance has not suffered. I use it with my Acer Aspire One notebook running Windows XP with Netzero as an ISP.br /br /The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is the construction of the modem. It is plastic and light, and I think it would benefit from a rubberized coating. I also understand, however, that the construction is a necessary for the modem's cost effectiveness.
Junk.... November 24, 2008 poorly worked and died a week after I got it. but I was concerned when I got a warning saying reccommend do not install becasue cerifcate was not certified by microsoft! anyone who have to use the modem for fulltime internet dont waste ur time on this or money.
