As promised January 6, 2009 For my setup, I have my cable service from Cox, my cable modem, and an Linksys wireless router. The day my modem arrived, I took it out of the box and plugged it in. I called Cox, navigated through their automated phone menu system, and read off the MAC ID to the tech services person. He did some stuff on his end to first recognize the new cable modem. Then he had to do some other configuration on his end because of the router. Once that was done, viola! We've been using the cable modem for the past week or so without problem.br /br /Be aware that a number of ISPs can block certain ports - this does not matter what modem you have as all are mainly DOIS compliant. This may not be a problem for you. But for some people, it can be. Before you buy and sign up for service, look around the web and make sure it's what you want. Cable people will deny they do this, but they do. And it can really mess up your experience if you are a "power user" and give you lots of trouble. br /br /
Brand Name-brand new-Great price December 30, 2008 The motorola SB5101 modem works great. Package was delivered in three days and came professionally packed with all required software, powerpack and cables.
Excellent product, highly reliable December 30, 2008 I've been renting one of those modems from my cable company for over a year at $3 per month, and realized I could buy my own. Fortunately for me there was a rebate of $20, so it was worth buying one. It is the same model Comcast uses, and has been highly reliable for us for over a year now. I figured at $36 per year to rent it, I may as well own one, especially since the rebate put the price down to just under $30, and no shipping fee. It is easy to set up and just continues to work day in/day out. Since I work from home, this is very important to me! Also works well with the router and wireless systems on our computers (we have 4 on-line). Highly recommend.
Motorola cable modem SB5101 December 22, 2008 This modem was received well packaged in reasonable time. It was easy to set up and has been working fine for about a month. It was a very good price from Amazon.con.
Meets Expectations December 22, 2008 I realize that Motorola and Comcast are pushing newer technology - for use as cable modems; but this one works fine. The price sure is right now.
