 HUGE improvement over Linksys December 18, 2008
I purchased this wireless router ten months ago. I absolutely love it, especially after the crummy experience I had with my prior Linksys wireless router. br /br /I cannot tell you what a vast improvement this has been over my old Linksys BEFW1154. The Linksys worked well in the early days before I felt the need to use encryption. However, when I turned on WEP the Linksys exhibited noticeable degradation of performance, and about every 7 to 10 days I would have to reboot the router. Next, when I did the firmware upgrade to support WPA, the Linksys performance really went down the drain. Browsing became excruciatingly slow, and I had to reboot the router pretty much every day just to get it to pass traffic. I finally got fed up and started looking at a high priced Buffalo router. However, the thrifty (cheap!) side of my personality kept holding me back. After more research, I discovered this ZyXEL router. Initially, I was hesitant to buy this model because the brand was unfamiliar to me. However, in the end, thrift won out, and I decided to have faith in the other user reviews and in Amazon's return policy. Happily, my small risk paid off. This router was easy to set up, and it worked like it should right from the start.br /br /And guess what?? In the last ten months I have rebooted this ZyXEL *ZERO* times! I think it definitely earns 5 stars, after all the frustration I had gone through with my previous router.br /
 Great coverage, easy setup, bummed about USB port October 10, 2008
First of all, I will say that this router works great for my household needs: it's fast, easy to setup, and gets a strong signal all over my house. Enough said. One frustration is that I was hoping to plug my external hard drive directly into the USB port on the router so it could be a network drive. When I plug it in, i get an error message in the router's system log: "Detected file system is not compatible (FAT32,FAT16,FAT12)". I'm not sure what to make of this. Does it mean that my hard drive has the wrong type of file system? Will this setup work if i re-format the hard drive in a compatible format? Or does this setup require additional hardware to work as i had hoped?br /br /Since this setup is not working, as far as i can tell, the only purpose for the USB port is to accommodate the easy setup method with a thumb drive. that would be dumb.
Working well for me September 27, 2008
This unit is a cycle or two behind the curve but must have been the best in its time. I bought it because of the great reviews I found at Amazon. I was not disappointed. I am using ZyXEL access points because I figured it made sense to keep it in one family. I have the router in the basement and on the second floor on the other side of the house, I am getting about 75% link quality. I really can't notice the difference between when I am sitting at my computer in the basement (linked by wire to the router) and when I am using the two upstairs. I would be confident there is a difference but I just don't notice it.br /br /One reason I bought this unit was also the high ratings it received on QoS. I have not yet used this feature.br /br /I did bring my office laptop home. It uses a different brand wireless card. Using it one floor away (first floor) I received that card's highest strength.br /br /Just remember it is not a 802.11N and you will not get "N" features but as far as being satisfied with the distance at which I can use the product, I am more than satisfied.

I ordered this router 14 months ago, and it served me flawlessly with easy set up and perfect connectivity AND then POOF,br / the adapter failed. It took less -than-a- one- minute phone call to Zyxel giving them the serial number of my unit and PRESTO--2 days later FedEx delivered to my door a new adapter. Within 5 minutes, I was back online-just like magic. I am impressed. Maybe the adapter should not have failed so soon, but I am glad to be doing business with this company. Ease of installation September 18, 2008
Installation of this product for wireless internet connection was the fastest and easiest that I have installed. From the time I opened the package to wireless connection with my laptop was approx 5 minutes. Quick, easy and definitely worth the low cost of the unit.br /
