Good signal strength January 2, 2009 It is Realtek RTL8187B based, XP picked up Windows update drivers for it no problem. In Linux I haven't yet had luck with it yet on kernel default drivers for my distro. USB cable that comes with it works well, and much better to set device high vs device close with high remote antenna. (USB length doesn't degrade signal strength, any run of RF cable will have some loss - so you have to make up for some of that with antenna size).
GSky works well for me, but not with USB extension cable December 31, 2008 Just got my BlueProton GSky model GS-27USB Wi-Fi adapter.br /It works fine on Windows XP with SP3 on Dell Inspiron 1100.br /Works better (picks up far more signals) than 3Com 3CRPAG175br /card or Orinoco Gold Card I have.br /br /If add 16-foot active USB extension cable (no brand name orbr /model number on it; appears as a USB hub to the OS),br /the GSky works about 10% of the time, loses connectivity mostbr /of the time, and once generated Blue Screen of Deathbr /(WORKER_THREAD_RETURNED_ON_BAD_IRQL) on Windows XP with SP3.br /br /Updated GSky driver to 10/24/2008 5.1149.1024.2008 (previousbr /may have been same version; don't know) and still had samebr /problems, including same BSOD.br /
This Unit Is Feeble and Very Misleading December 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For those of you about to consider this purchase?br /A number of folks on a [H]ardcore Overclocking and Hardware website review it at length.br /Here's the gist:br /br /When you look at the power, it is only:br /br /11g : 15 2dBm@54Mbps, EVM-24dBbr /11b : 25 2dBm, EVM 35%br /br /Sensitivity - The most important!br /br /Operating at 11Mbps:-82dBm@8%PER,br /54Mbps:-65dBm@10%PERbr /br /br /So, it is a BIG/SPIN or marketing play on words the way they are advertising this product as an ERP of 500mW.br /br /1) They are using this figure for 802.11b (wireless spec.,) which hardly anyone uses.br /2) Only 15dBm on 11g.br /3) The sensitivity of this device is terrible. (The ability to pick-up fringe signals)br /br /Sensitivity is more important than power. If you can receive or (see) the remote clients... How are you going to connect to them? The LinkSys and Buffalo products offer higher sensitivity than this thing.br /br /Let's not be mislead.br /br /This item has to be internally cheap, as the price for what it offers is too good. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Let the buyer beware
