Product Description The Linksys Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is the perfect option to connect a small group of PCs to a high-speed Broadband Internet connection or to an Ethernet back-bone. Configurable as a DHCP server, the EtherFast Cable/DSL Router acts as the only externally recognized Internet device on your local area network (LAN). The router can also be configured to block internal users' access to the Internet. Unlike a typical router which can only share 100Mbps over all its connections, the Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Router is equipped with a blazing 4-port EtherFast Switch, dedicating a breakneck 100Mbps to each and every connected PC.If four PCs are simultaneously accessing a standard shared-band-width router, they will only run at one-quarter the speed of any number of PCs accessing the Instant Broadband Cable/DSL Router. Not only will all of your PCs now be able to enjoy your lightning-quick Broadband Internet connection, they will also be able to share internal network data at ten times the Broadband Internet speed. Add it all together and your small network will move along faster than you ever thought possible.
Amazon.com Product Description The Linksys EtherFast cable/DSL router connects multiple PCs to a high-speed broadband Internet connection or to an Ethernet backbone. Configurable as a DHCP server, the EtherFast router acts as the only externally recognized Internet device on your local area network (LAN). The router can also be configured to block internal users' access to the Internet. A typical router relies on a hub or a switch to share its Internet connection, but the Linksys EtherFast router channels this connection through the full-duplex speed of its built-in EtherFast 10/100 four-port switch. This combination of router and switch technology eliminates the need to buy an additional hub or switch and serves your network as a completely dedicated, full-duplex backbone. Now your entire network can enjoy broadband Internet connections supported by its switched backbone. This unit requires an external cable or DSL modem with an Ethernet RJ-45 interface. This product comes with a one-year warranty.p p Note: All Linksys routers now include a special edition of Norton Internet Security! Retro Router January 10, 2009 After watching a congressional subcommittee testimony from some National Institute of Health official talk about how wireless radiation is a possible hazard, I freaked out and switch from wireless to this wired type router. Apparently not only cell phones, but also any wireless device can cause tumors. Now I have two 50 ft cables running across the floor of my house and my wife isn't thrilled. This might be more of a hazard than the radiation exposure. Anyway, the router works great and set-up was easy. I would recommend this router to any insomniac paranoid enough to believe the NIT experts on C-SPAN.
Works good January 8, 2009 It took a long time for the ISP to find this modem. Once they did it works great. It has a nice informative web interface too.
THIS ROUTER IS GARBAGE!!! January 1, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just got off of the Linksys "customer no-service". What an unbelievable waste of time. This should have been a pretty simple installation given that I have only one desktop computer and am not looking to go wireless. I started the enclosed CD and followed the instructions. The last step is a "system check" and the router "was not located". So, I unplugged everything and started the instructions again just to make sure. Still, no router was detected. I called customer no-service and they have me double-check that I can get onto the internet without the router - no problem, everything works fine. I follow the technician's instructions and did a manual installation and still no router detected and no internet. Fast forward about an hour and they are still having me run the same idiotic tests while getting the same idiotic results - I think that it was Einstein that said, "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results". Finally, the technician states that the problem must be with my computer and that I should call the computer manufacturer, to which I replied, "how could it be a problem with my computer when I can get onto the internet just fine when the router is not connected, and as soon as I connect the router, there is no internet access?" She finally admitted that the problem was with the router and that I should take it back and get a replacement. Yeah, right, I'll replace it with a NetGear router this time. Save yourself the time and money asn skip this peice of garbage.
Buyer Beware December 29, 2008 This router does a fine job distributing the internet to my many PC's, Media Extenders, etc on my wired network. Hoewever, none of my PC's could see each other when I installed this (they could with the old router). Linksys support was useless, saying that internet distribution is the router's job, and I should see Microsoft about my computers. I wrote this purchase off and reinstalled my old (before the Cisco acquisition) Linksys router (same model number, but earlier firmware version). Now all my computers see each other and my DHCP table is full. Buy another router if in this situation.
computer needs December 24, 2008 The product is working well and there was good support from Lynksis while setting it up.
