Coming out of the box, the Linksys WRT300N Wireless Router provides for easy setup process and offers all the basic security features. The router worked so so in a two story house with laptop and primary pc. After 3 months of use the router failed in supporting my laptop even when it was in the next room. The promise for long range capability which is supposedly the strength of the 802.11n system, is obviously something cooked up by the company's PR department. When it did work, speeds were touch and go. Though its a given that no wireless device ever achieves its prescribed maximum speed in the real world, at least this model should have been able to operate within 10 feet. In short the system completely shut down and stopped powering up a few weeks later.br /br /Warranty wise, Linksys offers 3 years on parts and labor as well as a toll free number for tech support that is available 24/7. By no means does it compare to Belkin's lifetime warranty and free support. After going through the usual ritual with overseas based tech support it was finally a given that the router had indeed seen its last days. Tech support issues an RMA number which in turn you must call another toll free number or complete information online for processing its return. Shipping costs for returning the router are incurred by the shipper. Linksys does pay for replacement shipping charges.br /br /After approximately 16 business days, I received the replacement router. I was somewhat surprised to open the box and find a unit that was definitely an abused and quite used model. The exterior was faded and contained multiple scratches. I am willing to bet that the coffee and soda stains are from the previous owner. It definitely says a lot for the tech that rebuilt this router. Even though the replacement router works, I am going to back to Belkin. br /br /Overall, the Linksys WRT300N is a so so router with a record for off and on performance. Sadly, Linksys has become just another one of those networking companies that does not remember the basics in providing good customer care. I would not recommend Linksys products including this system to anyone.
Not worth the money! January 6, 2009
Not sure why this is still over 200 dollars! This device isn't worth 25 dollars.br /br /It does have wireless and wired capability but the wired is only 10/100 and wireless is worse than ALL the "B" devices on the market. br /br /PROS:br /It's a pretty blue colorbr /It's easy to setupbr /It's got cosmetic antennas and dials to make it look real fancy.br /Stands up.br /has colorful lightsbr /does work to connect Wired and wireless and is pretty stable (99.9% up time)br /br /CONS:br /--no gigabit network (it was out for over 3 years before this what's up)?br /--POOR RANGEbr /--FAIR SPEEDS, if you connect (great if you don't have a matching adapter).br /--Takes up a bunch of room with the cosmetic junk on top (it does nothing for performance).br /--EXTREMELY HIGH PRICE TAGbr /--Install puts a bunch of junk on you machine that you have to uninstall.br /--Works POORLY with the matching Wireless N card (better to use "G" and different brand)br /--Customer service is POORbr /--OLD technology works and out performs this device.br /br /Don't waste your money on this. Find something that has wired gigabit and wireless.
 I should have read the reviews first January 3, 2009
For some reason, instead of reading the complete reviews I just trusted the Linksys brand and went ahead with the purchase. Well, I'm regretting that now because I'm stuck with a wireless router that doesn't have a range of 10 meters inside my house.br /I even tried installing DD-WRT and increasing the Tx power and nothing worked.br /Linksys normally makes good products but this one just didn't live up to the brand name.
Cumbersome Linksys Router November 16, 2008
My Linksys router ultimately functions as advertised, but its "Quick Install" disc and accompanying instructions are ludicrous. Although I am quite able with electonics, several attempts at installing my Linksys router using its "Quick Install" instructions, as supplemented by "Help" instructions contained in its "Linksys Advisor" and the Linksys Web site, wasted many hours. Knowing the process would waste even more time (this happened with a prior version of Linksys router), I finally resorted to Linksys "Tech Support," where I first dealt with a barely literate woman somewhere in India who labored through spelling my name, understanding the serial number of my product, etc. and generally taking a great deal of time before disconnecting me without providing a case number so that on my next call (apparently Linksys operators are not allowed to make calls even though I had been previously asked for my phone number), there was no case number to supply the next operator. So we again struggled through "can you spell your name (yes, I've been able to do that since age 3), etc. and then taking a very long time to help me initiate operation of my Linksys router, something that was advertised as being short and simple.
Worse performance than my wireless-G router October 24, 2008
I bought this router because my new laptop had wireless-N technology. However, it took forever to get the router to work with my laptop with encryption enabled. Then, when I finally got it work, the signal strength/range was no better than my G router. The router's speed was worst of all. Compared side-by-side the download and upload speeds for my G router were consistently better by a considerable margin. I tested the speed using multiple websites and the wireless-G router was always better. None of the suggestions from the Linksys website helped improve the speed. I don't even use it anymore. I just use my G router for everything, although I haven't had the heart to disconnect it altogether because I paid $70 for it. I'm secretly hoping that Linksys releases a miraculous firmware upgrade that will fix it.
