Solid DSL modem November 30, 2008 This modem is usually delivered by ISPs to their customers. The ISPs supply the documentation to get the modem up and running.br /br /This modem is typically for sale on Amazon without documentation or installation software. It turns out you don't need any of it. There are a number of references on the internet for getting the modem running.br /br /My three year old DSL modem delivered from my ISP starting crashing daily, and sometimes multiple times in an hour. When running, it's download speed was 1.5Mbs. This new 2Wire modem runs at 2.5Mbps and is rock solid.br /br /One feature I really like is that you can adjust the wireless power output. At maximum power, we can connect all the way across our house without using a repeater as we had to with the old modem.br /
How home network setup should have been all along. February 9, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I struggled off and on for two months to get a DSL modem and a router to work together (tried two different name-brand routers). I spent late nights on Tech Support calls, pushing re-set buttons, re-running install CD's, fiddling with IP addresses, etc. Finally, I gave up in disgust.br /br /I got the 2Wire unit, plugged it in and connected the cables, and I was up running in 8 minutes. Fast access on the desktop and great wireless speed all around the house. The DSL modem is now where it belongs - in the trash.br /br /If you want to go wireless without getting an ulcer, this is your unit.
I could not ask for anything better than this. December 17, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This DSL Modem w/Wi-Fi has worked for over 3 years without a burp! I have used the wireless connection that I purchased with this modem on my desktop computer since day 1. In the beginning, I had the Modem hooked up to a 2nd desktop; but since I moved in 6 months ago, the Modem is not hooked up to anything except the phone line, and everything still works flawlessly.br /br /I have also used laptops with this modem in addition to the wireless 2Wire brand wi-fi receiver. I had absolutely no problem connecting to my network using the easy to install 2Wire software.br /br /This modem was provided as a package with SBC Yahoo when I started using it. I have moved out of their coverage area and it is working flawlessly with a different provider. br /br /One last thing I must mention; The 2Wire FIREWALL is perfect! No one outside my network has ever was able to connect to it - not even next door neighbors. When I was in SBC territory I often connected to my neighbors DSL when SBC was down (I lived in a rural area with lots of trees = DSL down more frequently than in a city).br /br /It has been the same since I have moved to a different area. My network is rock solid - no one else can connect - but I still have the advantage of being able to connect to at least 5 neighbors now wirelessly during the infrequent times that my DSL is down here in the city.br /br /I've had many DSL and Broadband modems over the years (I'm a frequent mover) and after using the 2Wire brand, I'm completely spoiled! I will never use anything else!
