It is fully compatible with Verizon, ATT, Qwest, Earthlink, and other DSL Internet service providers. With the NETGEAR DG834G, you have the freedom to switch DSL providers without having to change equipment, and you don't have to waste money by paying a monthly leasing fee. p bElegant Design and Easy Setup/bbr The DG834G is an attractive unit, about the size of a small paperback, with a silver exterior and rounded edges. An included plastic stand lets you stand the router on its edge to take up less space.p The DG834G makes it easy for even a novice to set up a wireless network. Just connect the DSL line, run the Smart Wizard with step-by-step instructions, and you're all set. Once your network is set up, the router's "Push 'N' Connect" feature takes over.p To connect a new device on your network, you simply push a button on the router, and your device is automatically and securely configured and connected to your wireless network. This means that the days of having to remember complicated security keys and passwords are over. (This feature is for use with other Push 'N' Connect or WPS enabled devices.)p bFast and Secure Performance/bbr Wireless G offers data speeds of up to 54 Mbps, making it possible to share a broadband Internet connection, stream music without hiccups, watch videos with less load time, and videoconference without delays. If you still run computers that use the 802.11b standard, don't fret: the router is backwards compatible with the older wireless standard.p In addition to providing wireless access, the device also includes four 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Ethernet ports in the back for connecting computers to the network via a faster, wired connection.p The DG834G offers many security options to ensure your data is private. Double firewall protection keeps your network shielded from outside attacks. To ensure the security of your wireless data, both 40/64-bit, 128-bit, and 152-bit (802.11g only) WEP encryption is available, as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). You can also use MAC address authentication to allow only authorized users onto the network.p bSmart and Green Design/bbr The router has an elegant and clean design with several environmentally sensitive features. An on/off switch lets you turn off the router when it's not in use. Energy Star compliant, the DG834G is stingy in its power use, and with packaging that's made of 80-percent recycled materials, it's as green as it gets.p The NETGEAR DG834G Wireless-G Router with Built-in DSL Modem measures 6.9 x 1.1 x 4.7 inches (WxHxD) and is backed by a 1-year warranty.p bWhat's in the Box/bbr Wireless-G router with DSL modem, power adapter, Ethernet cable, phone cable, ADSL phone line filter, vertical stand, setup CD, warranty/support information.

5 out of 5 stars Netgear DG834Gv5 Gateway   January 2, 2009
Replacing Qwest/Actiontec wireless gateway. Setup went quickly and smoothly. Process was clear at all steps, with Netgear instructions and notes at every screen to offer explanations, comments, etc.

5 out of 5 stars Good modem combo with only one flaw   December 29, 2008
This is a very good DSL modem combo. It runs 24x7 with no problems at all. The only trick for it to work with ATT DSL is setup the right VPI/VCI as 0/35. Otherwise it won't find any dsl signal. Different ISPs might get different VPI/VCI. Just google and try it. Or let the modem search it for you. But you need to wait pretty long time until it finishes the search routine. br /The DDNS only works with dyndns.com. But that's not a big deal. dyndns.com is pretty good for free DDNS service. The port forwarding also works good. Firewall setup is very straight forward. The Wifi signal gets excellent range. It also gets Mac address list filtering. br /The wireless printer server, VOIP (Italkbb) and Skype all works excellent with it. br /The ONLY problem is that it cannot send the logs files to my email address. The reason is the netgear router send the emails through the default SMTP port 25 without TSL/SSL encryption. But port 25 is blocked by almost every major ISPs in United States. So that's the dilemma. Either ATT needs to unblock port 25 specifically for your account or let the netgear fix their bad firmware to embed the TSL/SSL SMTP on other ports at your choice. br /Maybe I am asking too much for this little dsl combo modem. All in all, it is perfect for home use.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   August 3, 2008
There are a lot of positive attributes to this product. First, if you're renting your DSL modem this will save you money every month. It's great if you're looking for an easy to set up home network or wireless network. The parental features are extremely useful and tamper proof. br /br /The parental controls could be a little more flexible (e.g. allowing for seperate schedules for each day of the week) and the modem seems to slow when multi-tasking.

1 out of 5 stars Netgear DG834Gv4 DSL Modem/Router   June 14, 2008

Just purchased this item to replace my rented Qwest Actionec DSL modem but will not work on Qwest. I contacted Netgear Tech support, which is out-sourced to India, and they said the BG834Gv4 (version 4) is the UK model and it won't work in the US. I then asked them to explain why their selling that unit in the US and they didn't want to answer that question.br /DON'T BUY THIS DSL MODEM/ROUTER if you plan on using it in the US.

1 out of 5 stars Does not work with Verizon DSL   June 10, 2008
0 out of 1 found this review helpful

Not only does it not work with Verizon DSL as it says on NetGear's web page but the product support is awful. "Technical" support knew absolutely nothing about getting this to work with Verizon and Verizon "technical" support was just as bad.br /According to NetGear: "Replaces existing equipment provided by DSL Internet service providers such as Verizon, ATT, Qwest, EarthLink, etc."br /Don't waste you money.br /br /Anyone want to buy mine.........cheap!br /
